Play: Non Actief

Category : Personal

I know you can pretty much call me a movie addict, but I do also once in a while enjoy a more cultural event. Last night, a group of friends and I went to see the annual play of Agnetencomedie. This year the play they performed was called Non Actief.

The song One of Us by Joan Osborne captured the crowd and guided their spirits to the Convent revealed on the well-decorated stage in front of us. The lights faded completely and we found ourselves all at the mercy of the nuns.

The prioress of the convent hated what they’d become as nuns. She found the luxury they were accustomed to over the years, appalling. So she did what … well no one actually … would do, she turned back time. From now on, everyone in the convent would live again by the rules set by their founder Saint Agneta of Peer.

I think most ppl in the audience hadn’t laughed this hard in a long time, while most of the nuns were learning how to be a real nun again, having to dress up looking like a penguin, be on an “old-bread-and-water”-diet and … at the same time being romantically tempted by the new father who had just joined the nearby abbey. Not forgetting of course, the nun who very subtle showed her lesbian nature …

Between every act we were treated to a song that set the mood even more. Going from present songs to old ones, going back to present ones. This way, all our senses were, at the right time, taken back to a time non of us would want to live in by choice, but all of us loved watching while these nuns were trying to cope with it.
At the end of the play the prioress came to her senses and as one convent they united and took back their luxureous lifestyle.

Personally, I loved the play and the company I was with. I’m already looking forward to go again with them next year.
